Well it is hard to believe Christmas is already gone and now it is about to be 2010. What is even harder to believe is Makayla is almost a year old. Where has the time gone? She continues to sleep well and eat well until we go on vacation or until she is sick :) . We went to Dallas for Christmas, and believe it or not it snowed Christmas Eve. We got about 1-3 inches in some parts. We were not fully prepared for snow when we went up there. The worst part was the horrible ice that we had to drive on.

Makayla loved seeing all the aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. She loved opening presents, but mainly she loved the tissue paper and wrapping paper. Apparently, they have a terrific taste to them.
Josh and I went to his company Christmas party where REO Speedwagon played. We had a good time meeting up with his friends for drinks before the party and then stayed at the party til around 10 or so. Below is a picture of us dressed up for the party.

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

This past weekend we went to Corpus to visit my parents and my grandpa who came down from Kilgore, Texas.  We took Makayla to the beach for the first time . Actually, because of the red tide there was little beach so we had to go to higher ground where there was a lot of sand. She looked scared at first and didn’t really care that it was so cold.  Eventually, she grew to love it, and she loved digging her toes in the sand. We had a blast with her and she loved playing. We see many trips to the beach with Mema and Papa in the future. That is one good advantage of them living in Corpus. Although Corpus beaches have  nothing on Florida beaches.  I am not a fan of sand, but if our sunshine likes it I can tolerate it :) .

Well it is hard to believe Makayla is 8 months old already. Time is flying by. She still isn’t crawling, but she “knows” how to get ready to. She can pull up on things depending on how high up it is, and she will climb up to you at times. She has decided she isn’t a patient eater so she is strictly on bottles now which is nice.
She started eating chicken and turkey now, and she feed herself cheerios and gerber puffs.

And she is Miss Independent as you can see

Her sleeping is a lot better now especially naps. She takes most of the time a long morning nap and about an 1 afternoon nap. We wish we could slow down time, but we can’t. So we treasure every moment we have with her. She is truly our SUNSHINE…

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for allowing Grandma B to be a part of our family. She was the best neighbor to us in our rent house and became one of our own over 14 years ago. She was a great neighbor because of all the love and of course yummy stuff like carrot cake and honeybars. I am sure she is in heaven wanting to make you some of her famous honeybars. I will never forget her loving and caring personality. She became a Grandma to us. I will never forget all the fun times we had..her making a mess with those chili burgers from Jims, Junior Whataburger meals, Schlotzskys, birthday cakes for my brother and me (half what he liked and half what I liked), honeybars, carrot cakes. Rudy’s Chopped Brisket Sandwich with the extra spicy sauce (Grandma seemed to have the best stomach for her age that could handle all that spicy stuff) and most of all the love she showed us. She was a remarkable woman who touched many lives young and old. She was for sure she wouldn’t be able to meet Makayla, but thankfully she was able to watch Makayla grow during these 7 months. She would give anyone the clothes of her back, but of course You know all this because You created her.
Watching her struggle over the past months has been rough, and we just prayed that you would take her peacefully. You answered our prayers. Even though it is rough to say Good-bye to her, I know you are giving her the best welcoming party anyone could give her.
Give her and my Grandma a big hug from us, and tell them we love them and miss them greatly. However, I know living up there is a LOT more peaceful and fun. I can’t wait to see their “mansion” you created for them.

Hard to believe how fast time is flying by with our precious Makayla.

She is really getting her personality now which makes it fun. We always get so many compliments on what a good and happy baby she is; however, they don’t see the other side of her :) . Just kidding. She is a baby still so what can we expect. Like most humans, they act so sweet and nice around others or in front of others. For the most part she is the same unless she is tired or wants attention.
She is eating solids 3 times a day. I make my own food, and am loving it. So far she eats sweet potatoes, squash, apples, pears, green beans, peas, carrots, prunes, plumbs, peaches and bananas.
She is wearing some 12 month stuff because of her “chub club thighs” :) .  She isn’t crawling yet, and still isn’t a big fan of tummy time, although she is A LOT better now. She does like to stand and “dance”.

We wish we could slow time down.  Before we know it, she will be 1.  So, for now we are enjoying every day with her to its fullest.

Ok..so my last post was a novel according to Josh, so I will make this one short. It is hard to believe Makayla turned 6 months September 1. She is growing like a weed. Her stats are 17.10lbs and 26″ long. She is in the 75% for weight now, no longer 95%, and about 50% for height. She is mastering sitting up to a “T”. In fact she prefers sitting up rather than tummy time. So, she may never crawl but the doc nor us are worried about it.
Sweet princess we have had a rough couple of weeks lately, but I love you with all my heart and so does your daddy. Oh and by the way…your new nickname is “Sunshine”. This was given by memaw because your face just lights up whenever you smile.

So this past weekend Makayla and I took a little vacation to Corpus while Josh worked a very long shift (6a-10p) on Saturday. The two nights before were very long as she would wake like 4-5 times during the night. We get to Corpus Thursday afternoon and spent the day just chilling. Noticed Makayla getting really sneezy and congested. Well matters only got worse. That whole “vacation” mom took the monitor at night so I could try and sleep. Well Thursday night, my poor mom was up all night with Makayla. She would wake like every 30 minutes or so until finally mom put her in the guestroom with her. Her congestion had gotten so bad, that I called a nurse hotline. They said at her age there is really nothing they can do. When we got to Corpus, the lovely City of Corpus decided to dig up within inches of my parents backyard so I think something was stired up and Makayla reacted to it.
Friday we headed to Victoria to visit Steve and Michelle and Makayla’s new cousin, Sydnee Reese.

Makayla did great the whole time there. Her newest thing is to give hugs and kisses. Well, needless to say when we took this picture Makayla was trying to give me a hug. After the picture Makayla then tried to give poor Sydnee, who was a asleep, a hug and kiss. While in the process of doing that she head-butted Sydnee. Sydnee didn’t know what happened until a couple seconds later when she started to cry.
Saturday, we just layed low because we were all so tired from Thursday night and traveling Friday.
Sunday, Makayla and I packed up and left around 9. I was not feeling good and was beyond exhausted because the whole time we were there I really couldn’t sleep because I was worried about Makayla. So an hour down the road, after crying because I was exhausted and Makayla was fussy..a state trooper decides to pull me over. I knew I wasn’t speeding, so I was pretty upset when pulled over. He came to the door and was like “The reason I pulled you over was because you didn’t get in the other lane when I was giving that car a ticket, you didn’t turn on your turn signal and you were following to close”…Ok..first of all, the crazy person who was in the fast lane decided to slow down from 75-60 once he saw the cop, and he was next to me so how was I supposed to get over…second of all, yes I was following close because he decided to go 15 below the speed limit and I was trying to go around him. The whole turn signal thing I have no reasoning for. I didn’t get a ticket but a warning. However, after that Makayla wouldn’t stop being fussy for about an hour. So I had to drive with one hand in her car seat and one on the wheel. Seriously Mr. State Trooper..there are TONS TONS of speeders on 37, so why pull me over for something so small when in the long run it made the trip more miserable. We finally arrived home safely Sunday afternoon.
Thank goodness for vacations, but hopefully the next one won’t be like this one.
